The Photo Archive of the Florentine Civic Museumsbrings together and conserves the photographic documentation related to the museum and ecclesiastical heritage of the Florence City Council.
Formally set up at the beginning of the twentieth century to document both the works of art and the monumental buildings belonging to the Florence City Council, the photo archive now comprises numerous fonds of phototypes, consisting of negatives on plates and film and positives on paper, transparency or in digital format. The assets of the archive are made up of numerous historic fonds, including the Baccani fond, the Belle Arti fond and the Stefano Bardini fond; also represented are many of the big names of the Italian photographic scene (Alinari, Brogi, Anderson etc), as well as leading local figures (Cipriani, Barsotti, Orsi Battaglini etc).
Since the 1980s photo campaigns have been carried out regularly to augment the archive and document the art works. The photographic fonds are currently being reorganised and catalogued.
Access to the photo archive is normally permitted on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 15:00 to 17:00 by appointment. Apply to this office by contacting Claudia Bardelloni: firstname.lastname@example.org; fax. 055 262 5984.
